What is YES?

YES is the highest impact private sector youth empowerment in South Africa. As a private sector-led initiative, we address the country's youth unemployment crisis by empowering businesses to create jobs for unemployed youth.

In commemoration of Youth Month, Transcend hosted a YES Alumni Event, dedicated to celebrating the collective achievements of the Youth Employment Service (Y.E.S) programme. This special occasion brought together YES, clients, host companies and past YES candidates to share our journey and successes.

Transcend is proud to release our YES Impact Report and celebrates the placement of over 450 youth!

More than one in every three young people in South Africa are unemployed. The Youth Employment Service (Y.E.S) Initiative is the product of the private sector engaging with government to find solutions to the youth unemployment crisis in South Africa. Youth unemployment remains one of the most pressing challenges, with rates consistently among the highest in the world.

Transcend, with over 15 years of Transformation experience, has invested in understanding the realities that plague South Africa’s Youth and find solutions that truly empower Youth, challenge accepted norms and are successful for companies that create employment opportunities.

‘‘The YES program was pivotal in my success as a driver. Although Zulu Driving, the host company, was not actively hiring, they welcomed me due to the external sponsorship of my salary. Despite initial reservations, it proved to be an excellent decision. I gained valuable driving experience and expanded my professional network.Notably, the company permitted me to use the vehicle for Uber, which inspired me to establish my own agency.

The program's modules further motivated me to pursue entrepreneurship. While I had a vision, I hesitated to execute it. However, witnessing others successfully transform their ideas into thriving businesses inspired me. The experience was both challenging and rewarding, and I am grateful to Zulu Drivers, particularly the YES program, for providing me with the opportunity to learn, grow, and transform my vision into a mission.’’
