EMPOWERING PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES THROUGH SKILLS DEVELOPMENT

By Xolani Ngazimbi
March 24, 2022

Make a difference and invest in the REALISE work readiness programme

In South Africa, the month of March is commemorated as Human Rights Month as a reminder of our rights and freedom. The adoption of UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, firmly entrenched disability as a human rights issue. We would like to highlight people with disabilities who face wide-ranging human rights violations including stigma and discrimination, and lack of access to education and employment opportunities.

People with disabilities make up 7.5% of the South African population and are at greater risk of poverty than people without disabilities as they face significant lack of attention to the realization of their rights.

Research shows that facilitating the successful economic participation of persons living with a disability is an ongoing challenge, both globally and locally. COVID-19 has presented further challenges, that make it even more difficult to train and  integrate persons living with disability into the workplace.

Transcend understands this space. Over the past 10 years, we have invested in research, skills programmes and interactions with learners as well as corporates, to truly unpack the challenges of upskilling, integrating and preparing persons living with a disability, for success in the workplace.

Click here to watch a video about the impact of Transcend's REALISE Work Readiness Programme.

Transcend spent over a year developing a ground-breaking accredited programme to enhance both learner and corporate success in the journey of sustainable and meaningful employment of persons living with a disability.

In mid-2020 we launched our accredited REALISE programme: A programme that enables the learner to realise their POTENTIAL, their FUTURE and REWARDS.

The three month online accredited programme has the following benefits:

  • Optimise your BEE targets for skills development spend on PWD
  • Build a talent pipeline
  • Contribute to nation-building through empowerment of PWD
  • Better retention of PWD candidates
