Draft event Technical & production sector code released

Draft sector Codes have now been released for this sector and are currently in a public consultative phase. Once the public consultative process has been completed, the Sector Code will be gazetted and approved and all entities within this sector will need to apply this Code.

This scorecard covers a variety of event formats, including sporting, entertainment, recreational, religious, cultural, meetings, conferences, exhibitions, incentives, film, television and audio‐visual production, organizational or any other similar activities hosted at a stadium, a venue, a studio or audio‐visual production facility, or within a prescribed area (including the virtual on‐line space).

Important areas to note on the draft Codes:

There is a large focus on ownership with the points been allocated to the pillar exceeding 40 and the target % required under ownership also being higher than the generic codes, coming in at 40%.

Objectives of this code:

Developing an industry specific scorecard is aimed too: 

  • Promote B‐BBEE agenda without throttling the economic recovery of the sector as we emerge from the covid pandemic
  • Address historic inequality and create economic opportunity for black
    people
  • Promote training and skills development as a tool for economic recovery
  • Accelerate transformation at higher skill levels by creating structured
    career paths
  • Encourage co‐operation and collaboration between established and emerging, black‐owned business
  • Create opportunities for black‐owned business to access funding for capex and business development
